SwimEasy Graduates compete at Games

Lewis Smith

After much adverse publicity and frantic last minute activity, especially surrounding the state of the Athletes’ Village, the XIX Commonwealth Games will officially open on Sunday 3 – 14 October 2010 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. Extensive blanket coverage of the Games will be available on BBC television and radio, BBC red button, BBC i Player, online and via mobile telephones.

Watch out especially for the 2 Team Scotland swimmers with a strong SwimEasy connection, Lewis Smith and Craig McNally. They will be participating in the swimming competition at the Dr S.P. Mukherjee Swimming Complex between 4-9 October. Lewis, the son of the SwimEasy Managing Director Gail Smith, who will be in Delhi, and Craig, who progressed through SwimFast to Warrender Baths Club, are both now representing Team Scotland in India.

Lewis trains currently at the Stirling ITC and is coached by Doug Frost but continues to compete under the Warrender banner. He will swim in the 200 Butterfly, the 200 Individual Medley and his favoured 400 Individual Medley events. Lewis is an established GB internationalist and has swum previously at World and European Championships.  Craig joined SwimEasy as a 12 year old and was coached previously by Hammy Smith. He is coached now by Laurel Bailey at Warrender and is making his full international debut as the youngest Team Scotland participant. He will form part of the Medley relay squad and will swim in individual backstroke events.

Gail said:

“I am very proud that SwimEasy has spawned 2 such talented swimmers and look forward to watching them competing at this highly prestigious international event in Delhi. In years to come I expect to see many more of our young swimmers, currently moving through the SwimEasy squads, to become equally successful. ”
