The St Leonard’s pool, situated by Holyrood Park and Arthurs Seat, can proudly claim that it is host to the elite training programme, The University of Edinburgh Swim Team.

This high class performance team has included Commonwealth gold medalist and Olympian, Caitlin McClatchey as well as Commonwealth bronze medalist Corrie Scott. Commonwealth swimmer Mark Tully also benefited from this elite facility.

We run our main programme, private tuition, SwimFast and adult lessons at the Edinburgh University pool. This is a large and modern facility, being 25m in length and six lanes wide with a moveable floor to suit both our youngest swimmers and adults.

Size: 25m x 6 lanes

Average Temperature: 28 degrees Celsius

Changing Rooms: There are separate male and female open plan changing rooms as well as individual cubicles. Additionally there are lockers for valuables and take £1 for use, which you get back. Please think about other SwimEasy swimmers using the facility and try not to leave clothes in the cubicles.

Hygiene: Our teachers really love it when children blow their noses and go to the toilet before the start of lessons. This tends to avoid any unwanted surprises and causes minimum disruption to the lessons!

Meeting Point

Once children are changed with caps and googles on, they can make their way onto poolside and head to the left hand side where they can sit underneath the colour coded signs relating to their colour of swimming cap. From there, individual teachers will collect them for the start of their lesson. Stickers will be awarded at the end of the lesson and children should head to the near right-hand corner before going to the changing area to meet their parents.

Viewing the Pool

Viewing is restricted at St Leonard’s due to the pool’s Health and Safety requirements. We are asked that parents do not enter the shower area whilst lessons are on. There is seating in the pool reception area and the venue is situated close to local shops, amenities and parks; perfect for summertime walks or jogs to wake you up on a Sunday morning! Parents are however free to communicate with the Progress Adviser with regards to the progress of their child. SwimEasy has sole use of the pool facilities during the lessons.

Personal Equipment

Compulsory:

Eye goggles must be worn to allow for clear vision.
No baggy shorts are allowed as they restrict leg movement.
All children must wear their SwimEasy swim cap to prevent distractions and for pool cleanliness.
Swimming Costumes must be tight fitting preferably one size smaller than normal.

Entrance & Parking

From the Cowgate, cross straight over the traffic lights between St. Mary’s Street and The Pleasance, heading towards Holyrood Park. St. Leonard’s has a bright red stripe down the front of the building, with an automatic door marking the main entrance.

There is a multi-storey NCP car park situated on the right hand side (coming from the Cowgate/Pleasance) before reaching St. Leonard’s Land. Entrance to this car park is gained via Viewcraig Gardens.

The pool is on the third floor of the building.

N.B. Edinburgh University also has a sports facility on the Pleasance, but the pool is situated around the corner in Holyrood Road.
