Teacher Spotlight: Dylan

Throughout my childhood I was a part of Swim Easy. It was a big part of my week and probably my highlight. When I went through the programme, it was all so different. Even some different coloured hats! I always remember how positive the teachers were and how they always made my day. After I had completed blue hats I then continued my swimming through Warrender Bath Swim Club for many years. I have also been a runner my whole life so when swimming got too intense I then moved to triathlon. With my previous experience in swimming it was noticeable that I was going to be able to perform in triathlon where I am now part of the Scottish Triathlon Performance Pathway. Though most of the swimming I race is open water now, I still enjoy coming out near the front of the group onto the bike leg.

When I had the opportunity to be able to teach the sport that I loved I wanted nothing more than to give back to the swimming community. I have always loved helping out with younger children so this was the perfect job for me. I started out just before I turned 16. Each week I am becoming more and more confident in my teaching. Learning more from other teachers around me. If it wasn’t for the great community of teachers and PA’s I am not sure I would enjoy the job as much. I loved coming to my swim lesson every week when I was younger but I think I am enjoying the teaching more.

This job has not only taught me so much about teaching, but has improved my independence, confidence, abilities to share my ideas and has shown me how much I enjoy teaching. Swim Easy is now the highlight of my week, as it was when I was younger. And with all my hard schoolwork and training it is just the thing I need.
