Teachers corner: Luke, Edinburgh

I first started teaching at fourteen years old where I did some volunteering at my local swim club in Carnoustie. This kick started my passion for swim teaching, and I began working as many days as I could. I swam competitively up to age seventeen, which gave me the knowledge needed to complete my level two teaching qualification. I taught for a few more years, learning the skills of a good swimming instructor, until the covid-19 lockdowns. After high school, I moved to Edinburgh and began studying Law with Criminology. During this time, I found my way back to swim teaching.

I joined SwimEasy, teaching swimming lessons in Edinburgh in October of 2023. As I approach the one-year mark I am extremely happy with how I have progressed as a teacher and as a person. I get a real enjoyment out of teaching, the feeling of seeing classes develop and individual breakthroughs are second to none.

When I am not teaching, I am either studying or staying active by exercising my keen interest in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, mountaineering and swimming. Making sure my days are full keeps me motivated and makes sure I am always at my best on poolside.
