The recently refurbished George Watson’s College, situated in Morningside, is a fantastic modern facility with a comfortable viewing area just off poolside.

Twenty-two metres in length and fives lanes wide, the pool at Watsons allows plenty of room for your child to build the foundations of solid techniques on all of the four recognised strokes. Your child will benefit from using the non-slip diving blocks as we work with them to develop a technically sound, competitive racing dive.

The Galleon is a popular pool for many of our swimmers due to the central location and local amenities surrounding Holy Corner.

Pool Information

Size: 22m x 5 lanes

Average Temperature: 28 degrees Celcius

Changing Rooms: The changing rooms are located to the right of the reception as you enter the Galleon. There are separate open plan male and female changing rooms with the option of individual cubicles. Lockers are available with no money required; simply create a four-digit code. We ask that you are respectful of other timeslots and use the lockers provided to ensure there is enough room for others to get changed. Entrance to poolside is via the changing rooms.

Hygiene: Our teachers really love it when children blow their noses and go to the toilet before the start of lessons. This tends to avoid any unwanted surprises and causes minimum disruption to the lessons!

Meeting Point

We ask that you drop your children off by the changing room entrance to poolside and the Progress Adviser will point them in the right direction. Children generally sit on the right hand side of the poolside until their teachers collect them for their lesson. After the lesson, the Progress Adviser will guide children back to the changing rooms where you can meet them.

Viewing the Pool

There is a viewing area just off poolside with comfortable lounge seating. There is often tea and coffee on sale at the far side of the viewing area, meaning that watching your child’s progress becomes even more enjoyable!

Personal Equipment

Compulsory:

Eye goggles must be worn to allow for clear vision.
No baggy shorts are allowed as they restrict leg movement.
All children must wear their SwimEasy swim cap to prevent distractions and for pool cleanliness.
Swimming Costumes must be tight fitting preferably one size smaller than normal.

Recommended:

Towel
Pool Shoes
Robe
T-Shirt

Entrance & Parking

If coming by public transport, bus numbers 9 and 10 are from Colinton Road. Number 27 is from Polwarth and numbers 15, 16, 17 & 23 are all available from Morningside Road.

By car, from the main road, enter through the school gates and follow the drive round by turning right along the front of the school, being mindful of the speed bumps. Follow on to turn sharp left into the car park and the pool is situated on your right hand side. A sign on the wall indicates the pool. Parking should only be within allocated spaces. It is important to remember that this is a school facility and it is essential that drivers adhere to the speed limits whilst in the school grounds. Consideration at all times must be made in respect of the pupils attending our classes and the pupils within the school.

Please note: There is no parking permitted on the school grounds until 4pm. There is on-street parking located nearby.
